Description

Join us for Empowering Food Teachers, our 2025 Food Teachers Centre summer workshop. Just for secondary school food and nutrition teachers and staff who work with them.

We will be focusing on key issues reported by our teachers, but highlighting pragmatic solutions, ideas and tips of how to overcome those problems. From writing your curriculum to managing tight budgets, and from coping with short lessons to managing large class sizes, we focus on the ‘nitty-gritty’, offering quick-win and immediate solutions.

The programme includes:

  • managing the dreaded 60 minute (or less) lesson

  • safe and effective teaching of large classes

  • making your case for technician time

  • securing an adequate budget for ingredients and equipment

  • practical approaches for pupils with allergens

  • fast ways to improve the profile of your subject in school.

Key themes

  1. Food education updates - DfE curriculum review, resources and teachers

  1. Managing food lessons - managing time, budgets, technicians and class sizes

  1. Teaching food - support for curriculum planning, practical lessons and teacher updates
