How can we keep practical food lessons affordable without compromising what pupils learn?
Rising ingredient costs are putting increasing pressure on food departments, schools and families. For food teachers, this creates difficult decisions about which recipes pupils cook, who provides ingredients and how we make sure that every pupil can participate fully.
This practical 60-minute twilight session will explore realistic ways to reduce the cost of practical food lessons while protecting pupils' entitlement to a high-quality food education.
We will explore how you can:
reduce ingredient costs without reducing food skills or learning
review recipes and practical activities with affordability in mind
consider different models for providing ingredients
managing allergies and ingredients brought in from home
reduce waste and make better use of departmental budgets
make a stronger case for ingredient funding with senior leaders
consider how disadvantaged pupils can be supported through your school's wider Pupil Premium strategy.
You'll also hear from food teachers sharing how their schools have approached ingredient costs and supported pupils who might otherwise struggle to take part fully in practical food lessons.
There will be an opportunity to ask questions and identify practical changes that could work in your own school.
By the end of the twilight, you should be able to:
identify practical ways to reduce ingredient costs without reducing learning
consider different approaches to providing ingredients for pupils
understand how schools are supporting pupils through their wider Pupil Premium strategy
make a stronger case for ingredient funding within their own school
identify practical next steps for their department.
And there's more…
Your booking will also include access to the Affordable Food Lessons for All resource pack, the Food Teachers Centre's comprehensive on-demand training and resource package.
